Yes, we use AI, heavily, and we'd rather tell you exactly how than mumble about it. The short version: AI helps us build; your data stays out of it.
The distinction that matters
There are two completely different questions hiding inside "do you use AI?"
1. Do we use AI to build software? Yes, extensively. AI assists our coding, testing, and documentation. It is why a Canadian family shop can deliver work at a fraction of consultancy rates. Your data is not involved in this any more than your house is inside a power drill. Every line of AI-assisted code is reviewed by the person you talk to on the phone, and you own all of it: anyone you choose can audit it, because no lock-in means no secrets.
2. Do we feed your municipal data into AI tools? No. Not your records, not your residents' information, not your finances. Never without your written agreement. This is a contract term, not a promise.
Our written commitments
- No municipal data enters any AI service without your written sign-off. Default is never.
- If AI processing would genuinely help a project (for example, classifying decades of scanned records), it happens only with your approval, on enterprise terms that contractually prohibit the provider from training on your data, with Canadian data handling.
- Development and testing use generated synthetic data: fake residents, fake accounts, fake ledgers. Nothing FOIP-sensitive leaves your office during a build. Creating that safe example data is literally one of our services.
- The AI tools we use for building are configured with training opt-outs on paid business terms, not free consumer accounts.
- A human is accountable for everything. AI accelerates the work; it does not sign it off. Deliverables carry our name and our review.
- The clause travels with the contract. Our standard services agreement includes this policy as a data-handling term you can enforce, and your FOIP coordinator is welcome to review it.
Why we're open about this
Every vendor you deal with in 2026 uses AI somewhere. Most won't say where. We think the municipalities buying carefully deserve the vendor who wrote it down. The sophisticated buyers in this market are adopting AI governance themselves; we're built to fit inside it.
